Phase 1 & 2 Watermain Replacement Project

OE provided design engineering, construction management, and inspection services for the City of Norwalk on Phase 1 & Phase 2 of this water main replacement project. Phase 1 spanned from Alondra Boulevard to 166th Street, and various other streets, and Phase 2 was located between Elmhurst Drive and Harvard Drive, and Gridley Road and Gard Avenue. The scope of work for Phase 1 included the Installation of 4,512 LF of 8-inch DIP pipe, 27 gate valves, 125 new house meters with re-connections, and the repaving and capping of all excavated areas. As for phase 2, the work entailed 6,200 LF of 8-inch DIP water main replacement. All phases of the water main replacement project were designed to fit the City's CIP funding needs. During the project, there was no parking allowed on streets where pipe installation was taking place. Therefore, the project was phased in order to minimize the impact on residents. OE was also responsible for analyzing fire hydrant spacing to ensure adequate fire water coverage was available at all the residential and commercial blocks. Heavy supervision was required to guarantee successful completion of the project and ensure resident satisfaction throughout the construction phase and cleanup.
