Orr Park Community Center/Sarah Mendez Park
OE provided construction management and inspection services on this project for the City of Norwalk. The scope included construction of a new 2,500 SF community center, adjacent to an existing elementary school. The community center is an air conditioned, masonry block building which includes an office, two ADA accessible restrooms, a kitchen, janitorial room, storage room, and a large community meeting room with an adjoining covered and enclosed picnic area. Construction also included grading, drainage improvements, 5 acres of irrigation & landscaping, installing 3,000 LF of decomposed granite walkways, park benches, picnic tables, children’s water splash pad area, a new parking lot, a commercial trash enclosure, and outdoor lighting activated by an astronomical time switch. The landscaping features required careful planning and attention by OE’s team to ensure the installation order and methods were followed as required. Furthermore, the project entailed conducting all structural, concrete, and paving inspection. Special care was taken to ensure ADA compliance on this project. Our team coordinated weekly meetings with the Parks and Recreation Department, Public Works Department, other City staff, and the Little Lake School District.
