FTA Administered Bus Shelter Replacement Project

OE provided design, construction management and inspection services on this ARRA-funded project for the City of Norwalk. The project was administered by the FTA and required compliance with federal documentation standards. The final construction scope included upgrades to 19 stops, which received a new I-Stop bus sign, a bench, a kaleidoscope bus shelter with solar lighting, and a new trash receptacle. In addition, damaged bus shelters were removed at three locations. OE’s design entailed a detailed field analysis, precise field measurements and plan exhibits, along with contract specifications. Each site was individually assessed for adequate right-of-way and ADA compliance. OE suggested alternate solutions for locations with constricted parkway widths. Additionally, utility notices were sent out to all local agencies to guarantee conflicts were not encountered within the parkway due to the 2-feet deep and 3.5-feet wide concrete footings for each shelter post.
